This region consists of poor countries that has a long history of post-colonial civil wars that have created obstacle to economic development, cultural, linguistic, and ecological diversity in the region. The unfavourable condition the region has had always been recognised as a step forward in the desire to engender co-prosperity in the area, presenting both opportunities and challenges for the integration process for those nations. In order to achieve integration, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was established in 1975. One of its member countries, the Republic of Mali, is included in the list of the 25 poorest countries in the world, and have a long conflict history. The role of ECOWAS in these conditions is crucial for Mali. However, in 2012, ECOWAS revoked Mali’s membership status, and imposed an embargo on the country, following the coup that occurred in Mali
