Description [Abstrak] : The background of this research is the activities and roles of the customary head to one of the regional cultural heritages in Kalimantan, especially in the village of Pampang, which is the culture of long ears whose existence began to be eliminated by the kamajuan of the age. The culture of the long ear needs to be developed, preserved and revived in its spirit so that the culture of the community, especially the younger generation can know about the existence of that culture and at the same time can learn also to preserve so as not to decline and disappear by the times. Grand Theory in this research is the effort to preserve culture raised by Sedyawati (2008) including protection, development and utilization. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction (data simplification), data disply (data presentation), and verification (drawing conclusions). The results showed that efforts in protecting, developing and utilizing the culture of long ears have been carried out by customary leaders slowly and consistently starting from the discussion in each village meeting, planting cultural and traditional concepts, building cooperation with the city government, displaying long ear culture consistently every week in events and traditional events, and the departure of cultural practitioners of the long ear can go out of town as a medium for the promotion of the culture of the long ear itself. From the results of the analysis of the research it is suggested to the head of adat to be more active in building cooperation with the city government, more moving young people and the community in conservation efforts, continuing to carry out cultural promotion and building cooperation with writers so that this culture can be documented in book form.
