• 4. Description [Abstrak] : This study aims to determine the relationship of self-esteem and socio- economic status of parents with smoking behavior of students in SMP Negeri 11 Samarinda. This study uses quantitative research methods. The subjects of this study were 98 students of SMP Negeri 11 Samarinda who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection methods used are self-esteem scale, parents socio-economic status and smoking behavior. The data that has been collected is analyzed using analysis from Spearman Rho with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 20.0 for windows program. The results showed that: (1) there was a significant relationship between self-esteem with students smoking behavior although not too strong or in the medium category with a value of r = 0.491, and p = 0.000 (p 0.05).
