• 4. Description [Abstrak] : Intellectual property is one of the focus in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. TPP is an extensive and comprehensive agreement aimed to set a new standard in free trade. During the secretive negotiation process and after the agreement was publicized, TPP received mainly negative responses from the American public. One of the main concern was that Intellectual Property Chapter might be harmful towards freedom of expression. The purpose of this research was to explain the reasons the American public responded negatively to the Intellectual Property Chapter in the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The concepts used to perform analysis in this research are intellectual property, freedom of expression, and social group theory. Data analysis technique used is qualitative analysis. TPP raises concerns throughout the people with its excessive enforcement and sensitive copyright law.The intellectual property regulation regulates more than the recognized international standards. This phenomenon occurred because of the preference of the government that prioritizes the interests of the private sector, which was seen since the negotiation process of this agreement.
