- 4. Description [Abstrak] : Indonesia has borders with 10 countries, both land border and sea border. Limit land territory of the Republic of Indonesia intersect directly with the countries Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor Leste. Land border between Indonesia is spread across three islands, four provinces and 15 districts / cities that each have different characteristics. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s marine area bordered by 10 countries. Border regions play an important role in the national development framework. Role in the development of border areas as the homepage of the Republic of Indonesia (Republic of Indonesia), which is a reflection of self and national development benchmarks. Strategic position makes the development of the border region one of the priorities of national development.
Government’s attention to the outermost regions immediately adjacent to another state, indicated by a commitment to build the region, mainly to preserve the unity and territorial integrity, national defense and security, and improve the welfare of the people in the border region.The construction and development of the border region that has been a tendency oriented inward looking amended by the new paradigm oriented policy oriented outward looking. Thus, the border region can be utilized as a gateway of economic activity and trade with neighboring countries. Development performed in the border region welfare state approach (prosperity approach) without leaving a security approach (security approach).
