Description [Abstrak] : This research was made with purpose to explain about the imitation of hip hop culture in East Kalimantan as the one of the areas in Indonesia where hip hop activities are intensive. The results of the research showed that there are cultural imitation behaviors of United States’ hip hop in East Kalimantan. It can be seen from four indicators of cultural imitation, namely attention, retention, motivation and reproduction. The imitation behaviors are in the form of hip hop fashion, rapping and dancing. The development of hip hop in East Kalimantan is not polluted by the negative effects of the culture. The fans still stay in the safe zone and they don’t abandon the principle and the culture of East Kalimantan. The method used in this research is the descriptive type to describe the imitation of United States’ hip hop culture in East Kalimantan. Data analysis technique that used is the qualitative analysis with ethnography approach, an approach by learning directly from the original environment to describe the situation or event that occured. The basic concept and theory used in this research are the concept of culture, the theory of imitation and the concept of cultural globalization.
