An indicator is the representation of women in one of the chambers of the federal legislative which is still below the minimum quota. From four election periods of the House of Representatives, its percentage is not more than 30%. Women representation in the Australia’s federal legislative is actually fairly good, because the number of women representation during the four election periods in the Senate has been above 30%. The different results in both chambers are caused by many factors, among others are their different electoral systems and political will of political parties which are still not completely supporting the quota system as recommended by the CEDAW committee.
