• 4. Description [Abstrak] : The food crisis is a threat to the whole world including Madagascar. Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world. However, the size of a country’s island does not guarantee the fulfillment of food for its population. The 2014 Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report stated that as many as 1.4 million people in Madagascar did not have enough food due to hunger. In this case, it is very important to need assistance from international organizations in dealing with the issue of food crisis. The World Food Program (WFP) is a special organization of the United Nations that aims to tackle hunger and promote food security. This study aims to determine the role of the World Food Program (WFP) in dealing with the food crisis in Madagascar. In this study, the authors used the concept of international organization Clive Archer which consists of three roles, namely instrument, arena and actor to analyze the role of WFP, as well as the concept of food security to analyze the causes of food crises. The programs implemented by WFP include the School Meal, The Revised Strategic Response Plan (SRP), and Purchase for Progress (P4P). The results of the study show that WFP’s role is to fulfill the role of arenas and actors with assistance programs in the form of funds or donations from several parties managed by WFP to produce, manage and provide food, as well as implement programs that have been prepared. In carrying out its activities, WFP becomes an independent actor that cannot be influenced by its member countries.
