• 4. Description [Abstrak] : In the 19 centuries, over whaling took place in Antartica. Over exploitation occur when modern technology is known. It is make the number of whales more diminish and some of them are vulnerablle of extinction. Therefore, some of the exploitation actors stop their whaling activities and they are efforts to restore the whales population. But, some of them still doing whaling, such as Japan. Japanese whaling aims to scientific research. Their whaling activities get causes pro and contra reaction from international community. One of the international organization which oppose Japanese whaling and make serious efforts to overcome the exploitation of whale is Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS).
  Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) make serious efforts to overcome Japanese whaling through their role as an international organization, such as, role as communicator, and role as motivator. In their efforts, they found some obstruction such as, members of International Whaling Commission (IWC) that pro with whaling, Japanese political elite, Japanese local communities, and Scientific Whaling regulations International Whaling Commission (IWC). Moreover, the most effective of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) efforts to protecting whale populations is direct action to blocking the activity of Japan. SSCS direct action can reduce number of whales that Japanese catch every year.
