• 4. Description [Abstrak] : This research aims to describe the efforts of the local government and the central government to export handicraft products from Hulu Sungai Utara in 2017-2020. The research method used in compiling this thesis is descriptive type. The data technique uses literature review by collecting information through direct interviews and relying on a variety of literature related to the research topic, and the types of data used are primary data and secondary data. The analysis technique used is qualitative. In this study, researchers used the theory of comparative advantage.
  The results of this study indicate that the Indonesian government in advancing the HSU handicraft industry focuses on training programs, providing facilities and infrastructure, as well as conducting promotional activities both domestically and abroad where previously since 2017 HSU has had requests for handicrafts from Japan in the form of mats, however could not be fulfilled because of the alignments of the craftsmen’s capabilities, thus becoming an obstacle in export activities. Therefore the government has taken an active role by making efforts from 2017-2020 where the results of the government program were able to increase the ability of craftsmen as evidenced by the increasing number of craftsmen and there is demand for handicrafts from abroad such as the Netherlands, China, Germany and Europe.
