• 4. Description [Abstrak] : China is a country with very broad cooperation. This is done to realize its foreign policy, namely BRI. One of the countries that has established this cooperation is Sri Lanka. This research will describe the interests of China in working with Sri Lanka in the Colombo Port City project, using the concept of national interest by Hans Morgenthau. The results of this study indicate that China has interests that include economics, politics and security through the Colombo Port City is a project that is in a strategic area and has great potential, which will enable it to meet China’s needs, especially in realizing BRI, where this project is expected to become a modern city that can compete with Dubai.The project will attract attention globally, thereby facilitating the formation of new partners and markets. In addition, Colombo Port City is located in an area that has access to important infrastructure in Sri Lanka, namely CICT and Colombo Port. Through this collaboration, China has stronger power in Sri Lanka so that it can facilitate China in carrying out its strategy and implementing its policies, without any significant intervention from Sri Lanka. In addition, China is trying to balance its power in South Asia, especially in Sri Lanka in an effort to face India as its rival in this region. Colombo Port City is a project that can balance China’s power, and increase China’s power and influence, especially in dealing with forces that can disrupt the stability of Chinese power in Sri Lanka.
