  • 4. Description [Abstrak] : The Chagossians who have inhabited the Chagos Islands since the 1700s, should have the right to stay and return to the Islands. However, in reality the British expelled the Chagossians from their Isles and forbade them to return to build a military base. Britain also included the Chagos Islands as one of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) areas and made regulations that no one was allowed to be in BIOT without permission. This then raises the question how was the Chagossian effort to get the right of return to the Chagos Islands. This study uses descriptive research with secondary data types sourced from books, journals, official websites and this study also uses the concept of Multi-Track diplomacy in analyzing Chagossian’s efforts to get their rights. The result of this research is that the efforts made by Chagossian have not been successful. This was due to several obstacles which later led to the failure of the efforts made by the Chagossians such as the Government of Mauritius in this case being under pressure from the British which stated that the Chagos Islands were within the territory of a British colony. The British claim is based on the Lancaster House Agreement made by the British with Mauritus.
