• 4. Description [Abstrak] : Morocco’s return to the African Union ended the 33 year absence between Morocco and the regional institution. Morocco’s return at 2017 is a surprise thing, since African Union still has not changed its view regarding the Western Sahara Republic (SADR) which triggered its withdrawal from membership in 1984. It is an interesting topic to be researched, by discussing Morocco’s interests to rejoin the African Union. This research uses a descriptive method which data are taken from books, journals, websites, and valid news. The author uses theory of national interest, concept of regionalism and the concept of membership in international organizations.The results of this study indicate that the interests of Morocco consist of economic and political interests. Morocco’s economic interests are market intensification to increase the economy. Morocco’s political interests is to approaching African countries so that Morocco gets support from fellow African Union members regarding a special autonomy proposal for Western Sahara.
