4. Description [Abstrak] : Sebatik Island is located in North Kalimantan, which is one of the outer islands of Indonesia. The northern part of Sebatik Island is directly adjacent to Tawau City, Sabah, Malaysia. The society of Sebatik Island and Tawau City carried out the economic activities to fulfill the living needs of each other. However, since 2013, the Sebatik-Tawau cross-borderlines was closed by the Malaysian government because the port and ferry transportation used by the Sebatik society did not meet the safety standards. The purpose of this study is to explain the impact of the closure of the Sebatik-Tawau cross-border line on the socio-economic conditions to Sebatik society. This study uses a description method whose data is taken from direct interviews, books, journals, websites, and valid news. Researchers use the theory of regional economics and the theory of Interdependence. The results showed that the closure of the Sebatik-Tawau transboundary by the Malaysian side had an impact on the social and economic conditions of the Sebatik society. In the social aspect, the use of illegal routes by the Sebatik people to the city of Tawau is increasingly rife due to the demands of the people’s economic needs that have changed due to changes in the trade regulation system between Indonesia and Malaysia, the slackening of Malaysian products on Sebatik Island caused an increase in the selling price of people’s daily necessities and the marine products of Sebatik fishermen decreased the number of shipments to the city of Tawau, Malaysia.<\/strong><\/li>\n
