4. Description [Abstrak] : Since the early stage of its business operation, Lazada has experienced operasional losses in 2013 and 2014. Besides of its operational losses, electronic commerce development in Southeast Asia, which is Lazada business based is still underdeveloped. Uses a descriptive analytics method which data are taken from books, journal, and websites, this study aimed at explain the reason of Alibaba Holding Group acquisition to Lazada Group SA in 2016. To analyze the case study, the Author uses the global strategic rivalry developed by such economist as Paul Krugman and Kevin Lancaster. The results of this study shows that the main reason Alibaba Group acquired Lazada Group SA is to increase its profitability in Southeast Asia EC market. However, there are series of considerations behind this acquisition, which include: (i) owning intellectual property rights, ie ownership the brand name of lazada and use it as platfotm to expand in Southeast Asia; (ii) exploiting the experience curve, ie utilizing the experience of Lazada such as knowledge of market preferences, obstacles, and consumer behavior in the region; and (iii) achieving economies of scale or scope, ie Alibaba Group’s efforts to increase its profit by reducing the average cost per sale and lowering the price per product sold due to the breadth of the company’s business operations.<\/strong><\/li>\n
