Description [Abstrak]:<\/strong> This article attempts to map the nature and the \u201cdynamics\u201d of New Order\u2019s democracy, aimimg at providing underlying notes in carrying out democratisation in the post-New Order era.\u00a0It is argued that the development programs imposed by the New Order government that yielded political and economic disparities had contributed to the rise of new awareness among those who had been marginalised by the development processes. Accordingly, some new \u201ccritical\u201d groups emerged from the society, although their political strengths had not been significant yet at that time. The development processes accompanied by structural transformation in social and economic fields also played roles in maturing people\u2019s political culture. This had been marked by the bravery of the people in judging state\/government\u2019s policies and performance. If this runs consistently, it would change people\u2019s perception about power and state to be more rational and objective. In addition, the shift of power balance and the change of political elites\u2019s constellation at state level created a conducive condition for the change of state\u2019s approach in dealing with the society and opposition groups. In this situation, one could expect that the state would accomodate groups\u2019 pressures. An international factor cannot be set aside as well. In fact, the change in international politics has strengthened the democratization agenda worldwide, including in Indonesia. All of these would play imperative roles in shaping the future of Indonesian democracy.<\/li>\n
