4. Description [Abstrak]:<\/strong> Thailand and South Korea are two Asian countries that have successfully etablished civilian control of politics as a result of military withdrawal. This study analyses their efforts and experiences in establishing military withdrawal as a foundation of civilian control as well as democratisation. The success of military withdrawal in these countries is an interesting phenomenon. It has even become a notable reference in the struggles for military withdrawal among pro-democracy groups in Asian countries, particularly Indonesia, where the military has been playing dominant or significant role in the domestic politics. The struggles for the establishment of military withdrawal and civilian control in Indonesia have indeed provided considerable outcomes. However, so far, the fruits of the struggles are not as successful as those of South Korea and Thailand. Therefore, this archipelagic country can learn those two countries’ lessons.<\/li>\n
