4. Description [Abstrak] : As a transboundary river and one of the foremost rivers in Asia., the Yarlung-Tsangpo river played a crucial role in sustaining life in China, India, and Bangladesh. Dissimiliar to India and Bangladesh that prioritize the river flow for irrigation, fisheries, and transportation, China sees enormous potential for hydropower. This eventually prompted the government to build a large dam on the Yarlung-Tsangpo River near the South Asian border. However, the plan to build a hydropower dam has drawn protests, especially from India and Bangladesh. As a middle riparian country, India is concerned about China’s activities upstream. On the other hand, Bangladesh as the lowest riparian country, is concerned about China’s and India’s upstream activities in the Yarlung Tsangpo. Through the concept of national interest and energy security, it is known that the dam construction plan is related to the China\u2019s national interests. China’s rapid economic growth over the decades has at the same time increased the demand for energy. China has a huge energy needs to build cities and industries. Therefore, the government wants to apply energy efficiency to meet its energy needs and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, the construction of the mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River is also a domestic policy aimed at accelerating economic development in the western region of China and its border areas. The Chinese government wants to reduce the economic disparity between eastern and western China, as well as create a positive perception and improve the living standards of people in border areas.<\/strong><\/li>\n
